| To fully benefit from the workout, the exercises are executed with consciousness and fluidity. We bring five aspects of physicality including: |

BREATH
CENTERING PRECISION FLOW
and CONTROL |
|
| |
| The main focus point of the method is CENTERING. All the work starts from and is sustained through the CENTER. Joseph Pilates called this center your "Powerhouse". We work around the Center Line of the body and within the body's FRAME (shoulder to shoulder and hip to hip). The Frame works to Center the body in all actions. When the work is done from the center and with full concentration you are in control of the movements performed. |
| |
| Joseph Pilates called his method the "Art of
Contrology". We do not let habit or gravity take over. |
| |
| All movements are done with
Rhythm of the Breath (and heartbeat) |

Each movement is initiated by deep internal muscles called, 'stabilizers'. When the stabilizers are strengthened, the result is maximum stability and increased range of motion of the joints. A person's ability to stand erect is caused by the muscular and skeletal system functioning in a state of balance. This means elongation and strengthening of posterior muscles (hamstrings and back muscles) to optimally support the skeletal frame and put anterior (pectoralis, quadriceps, biceps) muscles into balance. When muscles are not balanced, weaknesses are created which can result in chronic injuries and bad habits. Pilates movements work to strike the perfect balance. |

| Regular performance of even A FEW of the 500 exercises will develop the "Powerhouse:" (the coordination of the abdomen, mid and lower back and hips) into a firm central support from which the rest of your body is free to move gracefully and effectively. |

When we speak of a scoop in the abdominal area we are creating a length of the spine, not just the lumbar, but in the spinal column. |

| The Pilates Method of Physical and Mental Conditioning addresses the mechanics of the skeletal system, geometrically increasing the power of coordinated musculature, and the rejuvenation of the circulatory system through breathing - systems inherent in each human body. This unique method combines consciousness, proper breathing and continuous motion to slim your muscles, flatten your stomach, strengthen your back, and lengthen and balance your legs. |
